Alpha CBD: 60-Second Summary
What’s up Slovenia? Meet this CBD skincare purveyor from Central Europe with worldwide shipping and a passion for the epidermis. Alpha CBD makes seven topical options to treat an array of skin issues from eczema to acne, all of which have been dermatologically tested. Problem is, we can’t see any test results for the cannabidiol contained in the products, and we’re not sure that the brand even runs these tests. We’re justifiably hesitant to take this gamble.
Alpha CBD Brand Review
Alpha CBD is the subsidiary of Favn, a Slovenian retailer specializing in topical wellness through combinations of synergistic herbs and botanicals. They’ve been around for over 25 years, and besides their online retail shops, their products can only be found in pharmacies and other specialized establishments. Their pride rests in combining modern technology with the ancient science of medicinal herbs, providing ‘proven recipes’ of botanicals that boost wellness, particularly of the skin.
Alpha CBD features Favn’s CBD-infused skincare line. The cannabidiol contained therein is made from organic, industrial hemp grown in Slovenia. The country has a long history of hemp cultivation and is known for their clean standards, so we are fairly confident that Alpha CBD’s sourcing is on-point.
However, Alpha CBD stops at the sourcing when it comes to disclosing the processes behind their cannabidiol. Because we don’t know which extraction method they use and there is no CoA to prove an absence of residual solvents, the Quality Badge cannot be applied. And since there are no CoAs whatsoever, the Safety Badge is out of the question as well.
While Alpha CBD doesn’t mention testing their CBD oil, they do claim dermatological testing, and their skincare products are certified by an European entity named Aromacert©. This doesn’t come close to an organic certification, but does hold some weight in that it proves Alpha CBD’s ingredients are correctly labelled and that their essential oils are of the proper grade.
So, Alpha CBD claims their products are 100% natural, and the thing is, technically this is correct. A quick glance at their ingredients lists is a bit scary, but each does actually check out as a natural compound. However, just know that many, if not most, of these compounds are derived in labs, aka this isn’t one of those feel-good CBD vendors with simple lists of tea tree oil and calendula. Nothing to be scared of, but there is a marked difference. Hey, at least there are no parabens or icky artificial fragrances.
The CBD skincare line is priced in Euros and includes:
- CBD Cream for problematic skin
- CBD Body Lotion for sensitive skin
- CBD Shampoo (good for dandruff)
- CBD Dermatological Oil – We’re unsure of the concentration of this stuff. Proceed with caution.
- CBD Light Hydrating Cream for oily/sensitive skin
- CBD Acne Treatment
- CBD Balm
Europe is known for having America beat when it comes to skincare, and we like to see that Alpha CBD’s line has a product for every skin type. We’re also excited about the CBD acne treatment which, if effective, could have profound effects on an industry pretty much built on chemicals and unwanted side effects.
That said, we don’t know enough about the brand’s CBD itself to award the Quality and Safety Badge. Although the line is cool, there isn’t anything particularly innovative about it, either. The Mission Badge is the only award in this case.
Bottom Line – Alpha CBD has an intriguing line of CBD skincare, but we’d need to know more about their cannabidiol to recommend them
