CBD TRU: 60-Second Summary
CBD TRU is quite the enigmatic CBD brand. For one, we’re confused about the sourcing of their hemp and have no idea what extraction method(s) are used. CBD TRU does not include comprehensive ingredient lists with their online CBD products, leaving us with more questions. They fall short in the testing department too, with missing tests and cannabinoid profiles that don’t match their claims — probably wise to wait until more bases are covered.
CBD TRU Brand Review
Getting to the bottom of CBD TRU’s sourcing, processes, and ingredients take a bit of detective work. It’s never a good sign when you have to dig to find out the basics of a CBD brand’s products. Transparency is the name of the game for the elite vendors, and CBD TRU could definitely use some more of it.
CBD TRU is a subsidiary of Gerovicap, a Las Vegas company specializing in anti-aging creams, mouthwash, eyebrow hair removal, and other products in the self-care/cosmeceutical sector. CBD TRU claims all their products are vegan, made in the USA, non-GMO, and organic. We believe that the first three are possibly true, but there are definitely no relevant certifications to prove the organic claim.
CBD TRU is not a seed-to-sale CBD vendor, meaning they do not have oversight and input into the entire production process. And that’s totally cool. Not every company has the capital, knowledge, and manpower for such an operation. That said, it’s unclear where the totality of their CBD catalog actually comes from and how it is produced.
Because of tests for cannabinoid profiles posted on the site, we know that CBD TRU gets their CBD oil tinctures and CBD salves from a brand named Trew Balance. The CBD tinctures are labeled as full-spectrum, but tests show only the cannabinoid CBD plus just two terpenes.
The full spectrum versus broad-spectrum category is currently a gray area in the industry. A lot of vendors, to be on the safe side, will only claim broad-spectrum if their CBD products don’t boast super-rich cannabinoid profiles. Since this CBD TRU formula indeed includes terpenes, we’d be willing to let their somewhat deceiving ‘full spectrum’ label slide. But then we read this:
“Preclinical data shows that multiple cannabinoids, like that found in all CBD•TRU formulas, are far more effective at reducing pain than a single cannabinoid.”
There is clearly just a single cannabinoid in the CBD oil tinctures according to their tests, so the above statement is misleading and incorrect.
Then there are the CBD salves (also from Trew Balance) that have all-natural ingredients, but we only know that because we checked the Trew Balance website. Plus, CBD TRU jacks up the price of these by about $20.
Rounding out the CBD product line are vegan gummies, CBD capsules (the bottle says these are full spectrum but the product description says isolate), and CBD isolate crystalline.
CBD TRU gets innovation points for their protein soluble used to encapsulate the CBD in their tinctures and CBD salves (from Trew Balance), and they get an easy Mission Badge. But the lack of adequate safety tests and comprehensive ingredients lists and an overall lack of transparency prevent them from a higher rating at this time.
Bottom Line – CBD TRU needs to disclose their source CBD clearly for each product on their site, provide adequate safety tests, and get their claims straight in order to vibe with our methodology.
