Sure, you’ve heard of THC, but what do you know about THCa? THCa is the precursor to THC, kind of like CBDa is to CBD. It’s completely non-psychoactive and similar to CBD, has a lot to offer by way of natural benefits. The Love Grass product is unlike any other we’ve seen in that it not only contains cannabidiol but a large amount of THCa as well. Since one can technically heat their CBD oil and the THCa will convert into active THC, Love Grass products have only been available in registered dispensaries in California. Nonetheless, we’re highly intrigued by this CBD oil for pets and people that packs a little something extra.
Love Grass™ Brand Review
Love Grass was founded by Avery Rose, an animal lover who administers their product daily to her pet. Love Grass believes that pets deserve the same quality level as people and accordingly, uses the same human-grade, organic ingredients in their CBD pet oil as their human oil. Their site is brimming with powerful testimonials of how their potent formulation has transformed the lives of both people and animals.
Love Grass’ CBD oil is different from what we usually encounter because it has an exceedingly high level of THCa. THCa is the non-psychoactive, acid form of THC present in the raw cannabis plant. THCa is one of the most abundant cannabinoids present in hemp and has a litany of natural benefits. It’s anti-inflammatory, thus containing positive implications as a natural solution for pain and arthritis. There have also been promising studies conducted on THCa as a remedy for seizures and epilepsy.
While the Love Grass products contain a high amount of THCa, since their CBD oil is completely raw, THC levels fall below the federal requirement of 0.3%. However, if users heat or cook Love Grass oil, the THCa will in fact convert to THC and psychoactivity is highly probable. For this reason, Love Grass has historically only been sold in qualified retail locations (dispensaries, etc.) in California.
Please note that currently, Love Grass products are not available for sale because of something to do with licensing. They had to pull their products from shelves in July 2018 and are working on obtaining new licenses. We’re unaware of exactly what they need to change but hope their products come back online soon.
Love Grass uses just two ingredients in their CBD oil: raw cannabis oil and organic coconut oil. While we don’t know the exact source of their hemp, they use medicinal cannabis under California Health and Safety Code 1136251 to procure the oil. As for extraction, the company doesn’t disclose what they do, but we know that they must be using a solvent like ethanol (hopefully not butane) in order to keep their CBD oil raw and unheated.
It’s important to remember here that unlike other CBD oil products, the THC has NOT been separated. It’s essentially lying dormant as THCa, but upon heating, Love Grass products WILL contain THC levels that exceed 0.3%.
The Love Grass oil is available for horses, dogs, cats, and people. As the company states, their product stands out from other CBD oils because of its incredibly high (no pun intended) THCa content. It can be ingested orally or applied topically and apparently works wonders on the hooves of horses.
We cannot award Love Grass the Safety Badge because there are no contaminants results available for their product line. They have a cannabinoid profile conducted by SC Labs available for each SKU, which is a great start, but they need to go a step further by ensuring the public their oil is contaminant-free.
Bottom Line – We think it’s pretty cool that Love Grass has zeroed in on the natural benefits of THCa and offers it in tandem with CBD. We’d like to know a bit more about their processes and hope they can procure the correct license to get back in business soon.
