Populum Review: 60-Second Summary
Populum is out to destigmatize hemp. Join the club. They aim to make CBD benefits accessible and affordable for everyone, taking their name from the Latin ad populum, meaning “for the people.” Populum uses food grade ethanol extraction followed by fractionalized distillation and sources their CBD hemp from domestic Colorado farms. We love that they offer a risk-free 30-day trial geared toward CBD first-timers to try out their products and experience the positive effects for themselves. Populum is a relatively solid brand, but we unfortunately have to pick apart their “independent” test results.

Populum Brand Review
Populum believes being healthy and well should be accessible to all, and we couldn’t agree more. They emphasize that pharmaceuticals aren’t for everyone, and those looking for more natural remedies that won’t break the bank will find a solution with Populum. The company produces their CBD oil in Colorado, from the farms where their hemp is organically grown to the GMP-standard facility used for manufacturing and packaging. They utilize food-grade ethanol extraction followed by fractionalized distillation for CBD hemp oil that is ultra-refined, free of plant waxes and lipids, but still maintains a strong cannabinoid profile. Populum stands behind the benefits of full spectrum CBD, exclusively offering this variation of cannabidiol in the product line.
Populum’s product lineup is basic, with just three options for the CBD enthusiast. Their full spectrum CBD oil tinctures are available in 250, 500, and 1000 milligram bottles and contain an interesting mix of cold pressed orange oil, grapeseed oil, hemp seed oil, and coconut oil. Usually, CBD purveyors select just one of these oils to use as a carrier, but the combination here is not only delicious, but highly nutritious. Next up, Zen Pets is the name of their CBD oil for pets offered in a lower concentration for furry friends. Finally, Populum makes a Cold Therapy Hemp Rub with full spectrum CBD, chamomile, arnica, and aloe vera. But there’s some chemical nasties lurking beneath the surface. This product also contains methylparaben, a chemical preservative that mimics estrogen and has been documented to have mal effects on the endocrine system. Their CBD topical also contains triethanolamine, a pH adjusting agent on the list of Canada’s Prohibited and Restricted Cosmetic Ingredients with strong evidence of carcinogenic contamination. Yikes.
It’s a little icky that Populum claims to use natural ingredients and then hides these chemical additives (they’re not listed on the product page; you have to click to see the full label where they are disclosed). Additionally, we have an axe to grind by way of safety. Populum supposedly includes independent test results for each product in the box it’s delivered in. They do have test results posted online, but there are two issues:
- There is currently no test information available for the Cold Therapy Hemp Rub.
- The test results provided are apparently conducted by independent laboratories, but they are created on Populum letterhead.
If Populum can get their tests posted in the original format for each SKU, we’d be happy to revisit the Safety Badge. Due to their veterans product discount, they easily qualify for the Charity Badge.
Bottom Line – Populum earns points for quality and charity, and we can tell they are committed to customer service. They appear to be reaching for a standard of transparency, and they can get there by posting original third-party test results for each SKU (not reprinted on internal letterhead) and blatantly listing all the ingredients in their CBD topical.
